The ideals of America - life, liberty, private property, equality under the law - will always exist because these ideals are rooted in the transcendent reality of an Eternal Creator. Mankind yearns to breathe free because he is made in the image of God. The Constitution of the United States of America - the outworking of the Declaration of Independence - is a brilliant document because it both limits government and avoids the excesses of democracy and mob rule by creating a Representative Republic. And, despite the nay-sayers, this Representative Republic has served humanity well.
But sadly, she is floundering. People have forgotten that freedom is fragile. Freedom requires individuals to self-govern, and vital self-government ceases when morality is mocked and truth is deemed relative. Even as I type these words, I am aware that our Constitution is despised by many of her beneficiaries.
Nonetheless, America's ideals will never cease because they are God's.
The reality of the 21st century demands that we pro-actively preserve these ideals even while living in an administrative state with a technocratic core of - there is no avoiding the word - tyrants. Our job is to recognize that the bureaucrats in Albany and Washington wield unspeakable and horrible power over our lives, the sort of power that would grieve the Founding Fathers. Such recognition of this modern reality, however, must not be an excuse to retreat. It ought rather to be a rallying cry that spurs us onward. Our onward push must be strategic and wise. Our eyes must be upon the Creator Redeemer God who is our lasting hope, and our hands must be busy about His work. And His work is not just in the church, we are equally called to proclaim truth in the marketplace and the public square. God established three great institutions: family, church, and civil government. When his people neglect or abandon any of these, the culture deteriorates.
We must face squarely and boldly the stark reality that our culture is waning. Globalists are in the shadows, rubbing their hands together in anticipation of implementing their new world order. The battle is cosmic. Principalities and powers in heavenly places are at war, and the enemy of God is the enemy of God's creation and most certainly of God's people. Our role in this cosmic struggle is a privileged one. We have the joy and dreadful duty of participating in God's unfolding of history.
It is at the local level that preservation of liberty must be pursued and will be most profitable. Picture it... Families turning to God to become the primary educators of the next generation, raising their children in the admonition and knowledge of the Lord. Churches awakening from slumber to advance the Kingdom of God through the Power of God. Local civil government populated with righteous men and women who are wise as serpents and innocent as doves. Consider the impact of families, churches, and local governments rising with courage and conviction and communicating grand visions of nobler causes.
Advance. Begin locally. Family. Church. And indeed, advance into local civil government. Neglect no more the high calling of being a citizen who participates, who shows up, who stays involved....for the long haul.
